In a world that constantly tries to define us by our jobs, social status, or accomplishments, it's easy to lose sight of who we truly are. Our identity is not found in what we achieve or the accolades we receive. It's found in Christ alone.
Scripture is clear about where our true identity lies. In Ephesians 2:10, Paul tells us, "For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." This isn't just a comforting thought. It's a foundational truth that should guide our actions and decisions.
I've seen too many men who anchor their identity in their achievements. While there's nothing wrong with striving for excellence, the danger comes when we start to derive our worth from these things. Your career milestones are not the sum total of who you are. They are aspects of your life, but they are not your life.
In Christ, we are more than just professionals, providers, or even family men. We are redeemed, we are loved, and we are called for a purpose. Your failures don't define you; Christ's victory on the cross does. Your value isn't determined by your performance; Christ's sacrifice secures it.
How do we live this out? First, spend time daily in the Word and prayer, reminding yourself of who you are in Christ. Second, surround yourself with a community of believers, in your church and your discipleship group, who will continually point you back to this identity. Finally, let this identity shape your interactions, your decisions, and your daily life. When you know who you are, you'll know how to live.
