About Intentional Ministries

Equipping people to live intentionally in faith, relationships, and life.

How we got here

I am a product of discipleship. Early on, a man invested in me, and it radically changed my life. He taught me how to walk with God, how to read my Bible, and how to love my wife. In that same season, Beth and I were part of a young married class in California where people truly did life together. Those friends became lifelong friends.

When we moved back to Tennessee, we wanted to pass that on. In 1996 we started teaching a young married class, with no idea what we were doing. One day I shared my testimony and offered to disciple any man who wanted that kind of change. Ten men raised their hands. I made God a promise: every year You give me a group of men, I will disciple them to the best of my ability. I have led a group every year since 1997.

In 2003 I joined a church staff, leading life groups, discipleship, and men's ministry, and later serving as marriage pastor. For more than twenty years Beth and I taught couples, and I kept creating tools and assignments that help people put truth into practice.

Then my work changed. The people I was investing in were no longer all in the room with me. Leaders in other places wanted what we were doing, and I could not be everywhere. So I put it on paper: the discipleship process I have used for nearly three decades, the leader guides, and the marriage class Beth and I taught for years, which became a book we wrote together.

I have watched men run from leading a discipleship group because it felt like someone handed them a Bible and said, go. Give that same man a clear track to run on, and he is excited to lead. That is why Intentional Ministries exists: to help you grow, and to equip you to help someone else do the same.
