In discipleship, our number one goal is to lay a foundation on God's Word. There are five reading assignments per week. Read daily, not all at once. Daily Bible reading is a valuable discipline that will serve you well long after this group. Everyone stays together in the reading plan. Read with a study Bible with notes to help you understand what you are reading.
There are many reading plans, and any Bible reading plan will generally work. Here is what we look for in a plan:
It meets the group where they are. There may be men in your group who have never read the Bible. These men will be overwhelmed trying to read the entire Bible in a year. It is easier for a mature believer to supplement his reading than for a new believer to keep up with a heavy load.
It covers the entire Bible narrative. From Genesis to Revelation, it's crucial that new believers are exposed to the full story of the Bible. This helps them see the grand narrative of God's work throughout history.
It keeps a manageable pace. We read the Bible five days a week. This pacing is deliberate. It provides time for reflection while allowing days off to catch up. It reduces the risk of feeling overwhelmed and promotes a sustainable habit of daily Bible reading.
