Not every group is the same, and one size doesn't fit all. The full process is tried and tested, and I would encourage you to use it unless there is a real need to scale it back. A real reason is not "I want to do it the easy way."
Option A: Basic structure
- Meet weekly.
- Daily Bible reading using the Intentional Discipleship plan, or choose your own.
- Personal application using the Application Journal.
- Scripture memory using the Intentional Discipleship verses, or choose your own.
Option A keeps the core elements of the process without the monthly book and assignment.
Option B: Extended monthly meetings
- Meet monthly. These meetings need to be about three hours to cover the material.
- Daily Bible reading, journaling, and Scripture memory as above.
- Read a book each month and prepare a book summary.
- Complete the monthly assignment.
Option B helps groups that cannot meet every week.
Option C: Customized flexibility
- Meet at your own pace: weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly.
- Intentional Discipleship is a 10-month plan. Meet for shorter or longer.
- Use your own books and assignments.
Option C offers the most flexibility. It reminds you that the group is yours and encourages you to provide what is best for it. Discipleship is an intentional process focused on principles, not activities.
Create a Fishing Pond. This option is an open group for those interested in a Bible study that accommodates a larger number of participants with minimal requirements and commitment. The group uses the Intentional Discipleship Bible reading plan, and participants share insights from their weekly readings. It meets the broader spiritual needs of a diverse group, and it acts as a recruiting ground for more intentional discipleship groups. It holds people until they are ready to commit to the next level.
Regardless of your choice, as long as you focus on following God and helping others to do the same, I am confident that God will do amazing work among the men in your group.
